How your privacy
actually works.
Not the legal version. The honest version. Most of what you do in NothingBox never leaves your device. A few things do — so they can sync, wait for a date, or continue tomorrow. Here is every one of them, feature by feature.

Burn letter
What you write before it burns

You type your letter
The text lives in your browser's memory only. Nothing is sent while you type.

The animation runs entirely on your device. Your text never travels over the internet.

The burn completes
The text is cleared from memory. We have no copy. There is no copy anywhere.

What we do record
One event: "a burn happened", with the time and a random device code. Never the words.

Uses no microphone at all. It gives you a moment to speak, and records nothing.

Uses your microphone only to measure how loud you are, on your device, so the screen can respond. No recording. No transcript.

Without signing in
Entries stay in your browser, on this device. Nothing is sent.

If you sign in
Your entries are copied to our server so they can appear on your other devices. They are stored as you wrote them, linked to your account, and are not encrypted by the app.

Who reads them
No one. No person at NothingBox reads them and no AI ever sees them.
4
Deleting
Delete an entry and it is removed from our server. Delete your account and every synced entry goes with it, straight away.

Letters to your future self
A letter that waits for a date

You write a letter
Letters need you to be signed in. The letter is saved on our server, linked to your account, until its date. It is not encrypted by the app.

On the date
It appears inside NothingBox. It is not emailed.

After you open it
It is deleted automatically 7 days later. You can delete it yourself at any time before that.

Returning to one thing, day by day

You start a journey
What you're carrying, and what you write on each day, is saved on our server — so the journey can continue across visits.

Who it is linked to
Your account if you are signed in. If not, a random code stored in your browser — not your name or email.

When it ends
Deleted for good on day 21, when you finish, or automatically if it is abandoned. You can delete it sooner.

Camera opens as a live preview
A live view only. No photo is taken and no frame is ever captured.

The camera stops straight away. The mood you tapped is counted, without your account.

Only the options you tapped — no free text — go to our server.

AI writes one sentence
The four answers go to Claude Haiku (through Emergent, our platform) to write one sentence.

Nothing is stored
Your answers are not saved on our server. If you choose to keep the sentence, it goes to your KeepBox, on your device.

How we learn what helps — without knowing who you are

What is counted
The mood you pick, which screens and exercises you use and for how long, and the ratings you give.

About your device
Device type, operating system, browser, language, screen size, the website or link that brought you here, and your country — taken from your phone's own timezone setting.

The device code
A random code stored in your browser, so we can tell visits apart. It is not your name, email or phone number.

What is never counted
Your account, your city, your internet address, and anything you write. We do not look up your location.

Emergent
The platform NothingBox is built and hosted on, including our database. It also passes AI requests to Anthropic.

Anthropic
Makes Claude Haiku, the AI model. Receives only what the AI page lists.

Resend
Sends your sign-in emails. It receives your email address.

Google Fonts
The app's typefaces load from Google's servers, so Google sees that a device opened NothingBox.

YouTube and SoundCloud
Only if you play background sounds — they stream from these services, which can see your device.
